i remember the jw parties that i went to, complete with wholesome jw activities.
the jw do a lot of miming games where they portray an imagined character.

On the whole I have good memories of the JW parties I went to. Depending if it was a congregation one or a private one, there would be good things about it. Sure there were times, where you realised that people were not uncomfortable with certain things, but generally, this didnt moot the fun. I know some congregations were better than others, and that was usually down to the Elders and whether they liked socialising.

i knew of a hall that allowed only white shirted speakers on the platform for sunday public talks!
when a visiting speaker did not wear the official white shirt he was either told that he couldn't give the talk or he could change shirts,as the hall kept a variety of sizes, just in case of an emergency!!!
i don't make this up.
I remember the more common ones like:
No Beards, Wearing a jacket at all times when doing 'privileges' even if the temperature was too high, no white socks on the platform, no loud ties, hair to be short for males.
Some others that happened where i attended were: No sitting at the back, not sitting in the same seat each meeting (!), no long or sharp shaven side burns, no looking round when someone arrives late, dont be fashionable - be at least one fashion behind the latest, dont have hobbies that take up time...
The beauty () of these unwritten rules, were that the people attending them pretty much policed them, so even though you wanted to exercise your conscience to do a certain thing, the social pressure didnt allow you the freedon to do so.

for those of you who know my story, i was an elder/cong book study overseer/school overseer just about 9 1/2 months ago now.
when the rest of you faded and left (as i have since then) - did any of you write letters to your old friends in the hall explaining your decision and exposting the borg as the fraud that it is?
if so, what was your response, if any?.
I did write some letters to old friends, but it was quite a long time after i left and it was more to appologise for some things I did around that time, i've had no response from the three people I sent them too.

Firstly thanks for those whom collectively make up watchtower comments and for making the effort to post here!
I notice how little is given in actual help to the flock these days, things are said and then a sweeping statement of doing man made rules (meetings, answering etc) is what will get people through the hard times. Of course what else can they say as the very system is what causes a lot of the difficulties or certainly adds to them. I have to agree that I was one of those who burnt out from guilt of not doing enough.

For me the angle I take issue with, is that I could never see how it could be applied to non annointed, as we didnt have the spirit. Therefore how were we to really act upon the spirit? In fact Paul wrote if we didnt have the spirit we were not christians and still under law, and therefore condemned to die. So to try to show scripture thats nothing to do with a group of people the WTS have made up, is pretty pointless.
As for whether the group as a whole works under spirit, well thats pretty evident, just as Jesus said, they are white washed grave's. As a child I thought it all looked wonderful and great, but the older I got the harsher it was, the less love I saw, the more man made rules and pharisaical attitude became clear to me, congregation politics, with it being who you know that can help you along the way - dont be in a spitirual single parent family, as your an outcast. How many times did I see the supposed working of the spirit come back to bite the elders, later on, as people lied the're way in to position's, that clearly they didnt measure up for.
My hope is that, people get a wake up call, see something and after a series of things observed while a JW, begin to mentally break free.

i aught not to laugh about this.....but it's one of those situations where you either laugh or cry!.
we found out that my husband's sister was df'd a few months ago.
we attempted to contact her but she will not speak to us and is still shunning us as apparantly we are 'spiritually weak' and she is attempting to be reinstated into the congregation.
It seems sad to me that you get DF (supposedly because your not sorry) and yet some go straight back to meetings and endure the humiliation heaped upon them, until they are truly broken in spirit and ready to be compliant and molded into a good little dub again. I know some do find it a wake up call and start to realise how harsh and unloving it is.
Unfortunately the programing, while not able to stop you doing something to be DF for, is still so strong and influencial, the guilt and shame serve only to break you down and need them even more. Its quite like an abusive relationship, where the abuser claims only they can really love you and yet your not good enough and need treating badly.
hopefully the tighter the grip on the flock, the more will slip through their fingers.

it certainly must be very hard work for Blondie to do this weekly and she has our gratitude for her efforts.
I thought your comments reflected well the message being put across, the reader must submit to the explaination by the WTS, and not retaliate on any of the goofs the Borg makes. They must force themselves to show a psuedo love to try and attract people in, once these people are in and baptised - if they are not popular or seen to be doing the average, they become left alone to fend for themselves as the congregation withdraws from them.
I used to say whats the point of going after new converts when so many are falling out the other end, why are the ones who are already in not looked after better? I guess because this love that true christians are to show, isnt really with JW's as a whole, thats the problem with controlling people's christianity, no one does it from the right motives.

Well as is typical of me i miss your post and have to get you to refer me to it! Nevermind i've found it now and its was good to read, yes i've heard of bi - polar but didnt know what symptoms of it were, so thats good to read to.
I'm pleased that you've looked for this help and found it to be something deffinate and most importantly treatable. Yes you may like some of how it makes you feel, but as you also noted its unhealthy side effects are not desirable. I'm so glad that you have a direction to move forward.
I will be passing this info on to a mutual friend of ours, i'm sure they will be interested in whats going on with you.

Doing my usual catch up after its been studied, i didnt think it was so barf inducing as the title suggested, it seemed more generalised as WT publications seem to be these days - more written for the public without coming across as so barmy as usual. But then again maybe the feelings I have towards that society, have lessened and it doesnt bother me like it used to.
Either way I just wanted to appreciate your efforts Blondie in trawling through and providing comments and references.
